Changes Announced to Cross Country and Track & Field Staff

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Third-year head coach Stacie Wentz has announced changes to Hartford's cross country and track and field coaching staffs this season. Dan Johnson has been promoted to Associate Head Coach, while Michael Cameron and Riley Martin join the Hawks as assistant coaches.

Johnson, who is entering his third year at Hartford, will oversee jumps, multis, sprints and hurdles in his new role as Associate Head Coach. During his time with the Hawks, he coached the two only men in program history to reach the NCAA Regional Championships in Victor Shapovalov and Terrel Davis. In addition, he has seen 20 Hartford track and field records broken under his tenure.

Prior to arriving at Hartford, Johnson served as an assistant coach at VCU, where he helped guide the women's track and field team to an Atlantic-10 team indoor title in 2017. He also guided De'Nisha Smith to an A-10 60-meter hurdles title and a school-record performance in the 400m hurdles.

"We are happy that we were able to promote Coach Johnson to Associate Head Coach," Wentz said. "He has coached two NCAA First-Round Qualifiers in outdoor track and field in two years and continues to help move the program forward."

Cameron, a Kingston, Jamaica, native, joins the Hawks as the team's throws coach after a stellar career at Southern Connecticut State University. A four-time NCAA All-American in both the shot put and discus, he also was a three-time Field Athlete of the Year in the Northeast-10 Conference.

After graduating from Southern Connecticut State with a bachelor's degree in liberal studies, with a concentration in business administration and German, in 2016, Cameron spent two years with the Owls as an assistant coach, where he assisted the throws and coached two Northeast-10 Champions.

Martin comes to Hartford after serving as an assistant cross country/track and field coach at JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. Graduating from UC Irvine with a bachelor's degree in business economics in 2016, he was a first-round NCAA National Championships qualifier in the 1500m during his four-year career with the Anteaters. In addition, Martin also served as the assistant cross country coach at Laguna Beach High School in 2017.
