HAMPTON, Va. –Hartford softball wrapped up the Pirate Classic by splitting a doubleheader against Hampton this afternoon. The Hawks took home a 4-0 win in game one, before dropping a 12-4 decision in six innings in game two. Sophomore pitcher
Julianna Kocenski pitched a three-hit gem in game one to earn the shutout victory. Junior
Danielle Rocheleau continued her strong start to the season, launching her third home run of the weekend during game two. With the results, Hartford now holds a 4-4 overall record, while Hampton now sits at 7-2.
GAME ONE: HARTFORD 4, HAMPTON 0
Game one of the doubleheader would feature a spread out offensive attack by the Hawks. The score would remain deadlocked at 0-0 until the third inning when the Hawks would break open the scoring.
Kelsey Galevich would get the run parade started after reaching second from a throwing error and then advancing to third after another Hampton error during the next at bat. Kocenski would then step up to bat and rifle a single to right field, plating Galevich and giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Emma Curry would then step up and bring home
Paige Fedak with an RBI single before
Lily Sencer plated Kocenski after an RBI single of her own to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead. Curry would then wrap up the scoring for the Hawks, reaching home off a throwing error to give Hartford the 4-0 advantage. Kocenski would continue to pitch strong inside the circle, preventing any Hampton runs from scoring to earn her second win of the season.
GAME TWO: HAMPTON 12, HARTFORD 4 (6)
Game two would see the Pirates jump out to an early 2-0 lead after the second inning. The Hawks would answer back with two runs of their own in the top half of the fourth to tie the game up. With two runners on base,
Kiana Harris stepped up and ripped a single down the left field line, plating
Emma Armstrong and
Danielle Rocheleau, to even up the scoreline. Hampton would respond in the bottom half of the inning, tallying three runs of their own to regain the lead. Rocheleau would continue her fantastic start to the season, launching a two-run home run the following inning to cut Hampton's lead to one. The Hawks would not be able to muster any more runs as Hampton scored five in the fifth and two in the bottom of the sixth to earn the 12-4 victory after six innings.
