A native of Beacon, N.Y., Davis is currently ranked No. 15 in the nation in the long jump with a mark of 7.78m. He has dominated the event this season, winning all but one meet that he has participated in during the indoor slate. In addition to his dominance in the long jump, he has also finished in the top five in the triple jump in each meet he competed in, highlighted by back-to-back wins to start the season.
"Terrel is one of the nicest and most humble kids I have ever worked with and I am fortunate for my colleagues at other institutions to recognize his success this indoor season," head coach
Stacie Wentz said. "He has been fortunate to have an injury-free indoor season and has had some really great training sessions. We knew that his speed improved so it was only a matter of time for when we would see that help with improving his jump marks. He thrives on competition and the better the competition, the better he performs."
Davis also paced Hartford at the America East Indoor Track and Field Championships, finishing third in the triple jump while winning the long jump event after smashing the conference's meet record with a jump of 7.67m. The senior has been stellar in the jumping events throughout his entire career, as he currently owns the school records for the long jump and triple jump in both indoor and outdoor track and field.
Johnson servs as the coach for the jumps, sprints, hurdles, and multis. In his third year with the Hawks, led his athletes to score 29.5 of the Hawks' 41.5 points at the 2020 America East Indoor Championships. Johnson also saw six school records go down at the event, including the long jump, where Davis became the program's first athlete to qualify for the NCAA National Championships.
"I knew when we hired Dan that with his help, we were going to build something special here," said Wentz. "He works so hard every day and I am so glad his efforts are recognized by just not our staff and student-athletes but also by his colleagues across the entire region. To be recognized as one of the top-eight assistant coaches in the country, it's an amazing accomplishment."
In addition to coaching Davis to the NCAA National Championships, he has coached the only two men in program history to reach the NCAA Outdoor Regional Championships in
Victor Shapovalov and Davis. Over the course of his tenure, Johnson has seen 26 Hartford track and field records be broken.
