Davis Earns USTFCCCA All-American Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Senior Terrel Davis of the Hartford men's track and field team was named a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-American, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Davis, the first USTFCCCA All-American in program history, earned the honor after becoming the first student-athlete in program history to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

"I am so happy for Terrel to win this honor and I can't think of a better student-athlete to become the program's first All-American in the sport of track and field," head coach Stacie Wentz said.  "He is one of the best athletes in the sport not only within the NCAA but world-wide."

A Beacon, N.Y., native, Davis dominated the long jump this season, winning the event in all but one meet that he has participated in during the indoor slate. He finished the season with the 15th-best mark in the nation after hitting the sand with a leap of 7.78m. In addition to his dominance in the long jump, he also finished in the top-five in the triple jump in every meet in which meet he competed, highlighted by back-to-back wins to start the season. Davis also paced Hartford at the America East Indoor Track and Field Championships, finishing third in the triple jump and winning the long jump event, smashing the America East's meet record with a jump of 7.67m.

"Terrel worked especially hard this year on the little things to gain speed and strength," said Wentz. "The event takes an immense amount of speed and power as well as technical ability to achieve a mark that far. He remained relatively injury free by working with his event coach, Associate Head Coach Dan Johnson, to stay healthy this season and it paid off."

Davis has been stellar in the jumping events throughout his entire career, and owns the school indoor and outdoor school records in both the long jump and triple jump.

"I am so honored to receive All-American status for the 2019-2020 season," said Davis. "I definitely wouldn't have been able to reach these heights without the help of teammates, friends, and family who have been supporting me each step of the way. Thank you to the University of Hartford for providing me amazing coaches who not only pushed me to become a better sportsman, but a better person. I am grateful to be given the chance to compete with some of the best in the country over the past 4 years, as well as the lessons learned both on and off the track while spending my time here. I truly wouldn't trade this experience for anything. Hawks up forever!"
