WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the University of Hartford Department of Athletics has announced the postponement of the 2020 Roger Poe Golf Classic, originally scheduled for Sept. 14. It will be rescheduled for Spring 2021 at Blackledge Country Club in Hebron, Conn., and a finalized date will be announced soon.
The Poe has been held annually for the past 44 years, making it the oldest tradition in the department's history.
"In the interest of the health and safety we have made the difficult decision to postpone the Roger Poe Golf Classic," said Senior Associate Athletics Director
Brian Mik. "Our fall sports' seasons were already postponed due to COVID-19 and, with so much uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, putting the well-being of our supporters, families, friends and staff, is the most responsible course of action. We hope everyone will be able to join us for an even larger celebration in 2021."
The Roger Poe Golf Classic is the largest single-day fundraiser for Hartford Athletics, benefiting all 17 of the Hawks' Division I programs. All proceeds from the Poe, organized by the Hawk Nation Club, directly support Hartford's student-athletes. The Hawk Nation Club is the fundraising arm for Hartford Athletics, committed to increasing scholarship opportunities, student-athlete services and capital projects.
