Women's Hoops Falls Short in Sunday Loss Against UMass Lowell

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. —  Senior guard Jada Lucas led the Hawks with 12 points off the bench, as the Hartford women's basketball team fell to UMass Lowell, 74-52, inside the Reich Family Pavilion on Sunday afternoon. 

With the loss the Hawks fell to 3-5 on the season and in the America East, while the River Hawks improved to 7-4 on the season and 6-2 in conference-play.

After falling behind 11-4 within the first five minutes of the contest, Hartford countered with a swift 10-3 run to take a 12-11 lead with nearly four minutes remaining in the first quarter. However, the River Hawks closed the period with an 8-2 run to take a 19-14 lead into the second. 

Trailing 23-16, Hartford went on a 7-0 run led by five points from Jada Lucas to knot the score at 23-23 with 3:14 to go before the break. The River Hawks outscored the Hawks 6-2 over the final three minutes of the period to take a 29-25 lead into halftime. 

UMass Lowell used the opening 6:30 of the second half to go on a 14-6 run, pushing its lead to 12 points. Hartford countered with a 7-2 run to cut the deficit to 45-38 before Kharis Idom nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the River Hawks a 10-point advantage entering the final period.

UMass Lowell outscored Hartford 21-9 in the opening 7:16 of the fourth quarter, opening up a 22-point lead. The deficit proved to be too much as the Hawks eventually fell, 74-52.
