Lucas' 19 Points Paces Women's Hoops in 62-49 Loss Against Stony Brook

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. —  Senior guard Jada Lucas led the Hawks with 19 points, as the Hartford women's basketball team fell to Stony Brook, 62-49, at Chase Arena inside Reich Family Pavilion on Sunday afternoon. 

With the loss the Hawks fell to 3-9 on the season and in the America East, while the Seawolves improved to 10-4 on the season and 8-2 in conference-play.

The two sides were nearly evenly matched in the first quarter with Stony Brook carrying a 12-11 lead into the second, paced by India Pagan's eight points in the period. The Seawolves opened the second quarter with a 15-4 run to push its lead to 27-15 with 2:48 to go before the break. However, back-to-back three-pointers from Nina Farkic and Abby Streeter allowed the Hawks to trim the deficit to 27-21 entering halftime.

After Hartford cut its deficit to four points, Stony Brook countered with an 8-2 run to push its lead back to 10 before a three from Lucas brought the margin within seven for the Hawks with six minutes left in the third quarter. Leading by seven, Stony Brook used the final two minutes of the third quarter to outscore Hartford 8-3, capped by a three-pointer from Leighah-Amori Wool at the end of the period to give Stony Brook 49-37 lead entering the fourth.

Stony Brook outscored Hartford 8-3 to open the fourth, pushing its lead to 17 points with 3:16 remaining, its largest of the game. The deficit proved to be too much for the Hawks, as they eventually fell, 62-49.
