WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Graduate Abby Streeter scored 12 points to pace the Hawks, but it wasn't enough for the Hartford women's basketball team as it dropped a 71-62 decision against Sacred Heart. The Hawks dip to 0-1 on the young season while the Pioneers improve to 1-0.

The two sides would battle back and forth in the opening stanza, trading baskets the entire first quarter. Sacred Heart would take the lead after a buzzer-beating three to end the first quarter.
The Pioneers would carry that moment in to the second quarter, opening up on an 8-2 run before later pushing the margin to 24-15 with a 7-0 run. Junior Carmen Villalobos would end the Pioneers momentum with back-to-back threes to pull Hartford within five. The Hawks would get within one after a Streeter three, but another buzzer beater would propel Sacred Heart to a 36-30 halftime lead.
The Pioneers capitalized off of 10 first half Hartford turnovers, scoring 21 points.
Sacred Heart began to pull away in the third quarter, extending its lead to double digits. But Hartford ended the stanza strong, using a 5-0 run capped by a Sophie Benharouga layup to enter the final quarter trailing by nine. The Hawks would not go down easy, soaring for a 9-0 run to cut Sacred Heart's lead to 68-58, but they were unable to pull any closer down the final stretch.
