WEST HARTFORD, Conn. –The Hartford softball team wrapped up its 2021 campaign, falling to visiting Binghamton, 7-3, on Senior Day.
With the loss, the Hawks end their season at 6-13 overall and 4-13 in the America East, while the Bearcats finish at 11-14 on the year and 6-11 the America East.
BINGHAMTON 7, HARTFORD 3
Binghamton would strike first, tallying two runs in the top half of the second, before adding two more in the third to take a 4-0 lead. The Hawks would respond in the bottom half of the third as
Julianna Kocenski ripped an RBI single down the right-field line, plating
Danielle Rocheleau and cutting the lead to 4-1. The Hawk would have runners on the corners, but Binghamton escaped with their advantage. Kocenski would shut things down inside the circle, retiring the next nine Binghamton batters. The Hartford offense would come alive in the bottom half of the sixth as the Hawks looked to complete the comeback.
Haley Cassidy would lead off the inning with a single. In the next at-bat,
Emma Armstrong hit a single to right field and advanced to third after a fielding miscue, plating pinch-runner
Mara Sczecienski and cutting the lead to 4-2.
Lily Sencer would keep the run parade going, hitting a single to left field which brought home Armstrong and saw the Binghamton lead shrink to 4-3. The Bearcats were able to escape the inning and followed it up with three runs in the top half of the seventh to take the series finale, 7-3.
