Track and Field Competes at URI Coaches Tribute Invitational

KINGSTON, R.I. – The Hartford men's and women's track and field teams opened the new year today at the URI Coaches Tribute Invitational. The Hawks had a strong overall performance, seeing 13 top-ten finishers including five top-five.

HARTFORD MEN HIGHLIGHTS 
  • The men were led by juniors Anthony Clavette and Christian Deal, and freshman Jovan Joseph
  • Clavette cleared a height of 1.96m in the high jump to finish third overall 
  • Deal crossed the line in fifth in the 1000m with a time of 2:38.54
  • Joseph finished fourth overall in the 500m setting a personal-best time of 1:08.54
  • Freshman Brandon Edmund finished sixth in the 400m, setting a personal-best time of 52.91
  • With a toss of 14.06m in the shot-put, senior Dylan Murad finished sixth overall in the event
 
HARTFORD WOMEN HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sophomore Sydney Garrison continued her hot start to the season in the high jump
  • Garrison cleared a height of 1.60m and finished as the runner-up in the event
  • Senior Brianna Harris, who has been off to a blazing start to the season, continued the success at URI
  • Harris finished in fourth place in the 200m dash with a time of 26.06
  • Junior Hailey Marcello and sophomore Abby O'Connor both secured top-ten finishes in the mile
  • Marcello crossed the line in seventh in a time of 5:22.70 while O'Connor followed directly behind in eighth in a time of 5:24.20

The Hawks get back to work next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 28-29, for the John Thomas Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University.
