HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Hartford men's and women's cross country teams continued its 2022 campaign traveling to North Carolina to compete in the VertCross Invitational. The Hawks were led across the line by sophomore
Riley Brutvan and junior
Abby O'Connor who each recorded top-25 finishes. The women finished fifth in the team standings, while the men took home a sixth-place finish.

MEN'S RACE HIGHLIGHTS
- Brutvan, who paced the Hawks in all three races this season, was Hartford's top finisher, as he took 23rd with a personal-best time of 26:18.4
- Senior Keith May was the next Hawk to cross the line, clocking in at 27:01.6 for 27th overall
- Sophomore Samuel Moffat rounded out the top-three finishers for the men, crossing 51st in a time of 27:47.4
- Seniors Cole Cayer and Matthew Konopinski finished within four seconds of each other, clocking times of 27:50.6 and 27:54.5, respectively
- Junior Matt Speight clocked a time of 28:33.9 to finish the race 63rd overall
- East Tennessee State took home the team title after placing five runners in the top-10
WOMEN'S RACE HIGHLIGHTS
- O'Connor continues to lead the Hawks across the line, finishing 21st overall in a personal-best time of 23:02.9
- Coming off a top-25 finish last time out at CCSU, senior Hailey Marcello finished the race in 28th in a time of 23:46.5
- Junior Sarah Kulpa rounded out the top-three finishers for the women, finishing 42nd in a personal-best time of 24:42
- Senior Hannah D'Orso and graduate student Haleemot Adeyanju capped off the top-five scorers for the Hawks, clocking in at 25:00 and 25:07.7, respectively
- Junior Molly McGrail finished directly behind Adeyanju in 48th, clocking in at 25:23.9
- High Point claimed first place in the women's 6k, finishing with a total of 32 points

The Hawks will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 21 when they travel to Central Connecticut to compete in the CCSU Mini Meet held at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain.
