Track and Field Competes in the America East Championships

BOSTON – The Hartford indoor track and field men's and women's teams concluded their indoor slate at the America East Championships this weekend. The Hawks saw student-athletes score in 10 events, along with two all-conference accolades, and four school records. Leading the way for the Hawks were sophomore Sydney Garrison and junior Anthony Clavette, who each took home the silver in the high jump.

HARTFORD MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Clavette earned All-Conference accolades, claiming the silver medal in the high jump after clearing a height of 2.00m
  • Graduate student Nicholas O'Brien ran the mile in a time of 4:10.77, shattering the 10-year-old school record set by Andrew Chalmers back in 2012
  • Junior Keith May broke his own school record in the 1000m, running a time of 2:29.06
  • His previous record of 2:30.02, was set at the New England Championships earlier on in the season
  • Freshman Joseph Stephenson destroyed his own school record in the weight throw, throwing for a distance of 15.15m
  • UMass Lowell ended up upsetting UAlbany in the team standings, taking the first-place trophy
 
HARTFORD WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • The women's team finished in eighth place, beating out NJIT in the team standings
  • Garrison earned All-Conference accolades, claiming the silver medal in the high jump after clearing a height of 1.65m
  • Senior Haleemot Adeyanju toed the line in the 800m, finishing fifth overall in a time of 2:14.11
  • Junior Hannah D'Orso recorded the second-fastest 1000m time in Hartford track and field history, running a time of 2:57.66 to finish fifth overall in the event
  • The 4x800m relay team of Adeyanju, juniors Hailey Marcello and D'Orso along with sophomore Abby O'Connor took home the silver medal
  • The team combined for a school-record time of 9:13.91, breaking the previous record that was set at the New England Championships in 2020
  • UAlbany took home their ninth consecutive team title after finishing the meet 180 points
     
NEXT ON TAP
The Hawks go on a two-week hiatus and return to the track to open up their outdoor slate at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge. Held at the Doug Shaw Stadium in South Carolina, the two-day event is set to start Friday, March 11.
