Track and Field Break Two School Records at the New England Championships

BOSTON – The Hartford men's and women's indoor track and field teams tore up the track this weekend at the New England Championships, held at the Reggie Lewis Center. The women came in 10th among 21 scoring teams, while the men finished in 16th out of 22 scoring teams. Highlighting the weekend for the Hawks were senior Haleemot Adeyanju for the women and junior Keith May on the men's side, as they both etched their names into the record books.

HARTFORD MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Scoring points and leading the way on the men's side were juniors Christian Deal, Anthony Clavette and May
  • May's 1000m time of 2:30.02 broke Evan Jaworski's six-year-old mark
  • Clavette cleared a height of 1.95m in the high jump to finish tied for fourth
  • Deal and May each qualified for the final's in the 1000m after running in Friday's event
  • On Saturday, May came across the line in fifth, while Deal followed closely behind finishing seventh in a time of 2:35.50
 
HARTFORD WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Contributing to their team's 10th place finish on the women's side were Seniors Brianna Harris and Adeyanju, along with junior Hannah D'Orso and sophomore Sydney Garrison
  • Breaking her own 800m record that was set at the America East Championships of 2020 was Adeyanju
  • She won the 800m in a time of 2:12.91
  • Harris and D'Orso each qualified for the finals in their respective races after the first day of competition
  •  Harris ran a season best 25.66 in the 200m dash to finish third, while D'Orso ran 3:01.61 to finish eighth in the 1000m final
  • Garrison continued her consistent season clearing a height of 1.60m in the high jump to finish tied for seventh
 
NEXT ON TAP
The Hawks return to Boston to compete in the two-day David Hemery Valentine Invite. The meet is scheduled to take place at the Track & Tennis Center on the campus of Boston University, and set to begin on Friday, February 11.
