Hartford's starter, English, was locked in an intense pitcher's duel against UMBC's ace, Courtney Coppersmith. After a scoreless top of the first, Haley Cassidy got the scoring started off with a bang in the bottom half, blasting a lead-off solo home run out to left field, marking the lone run scored in the contest. English pitched a gem of a game, allowing just two runners to advance into scoring position all game, while also setting down 10 batters in a row from the middle of the fourth to the beginning of the seventh inning.
