WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford softball team finished off the three-game sweep against Maine this afternoon. The Hawks took the final game of the series, 6-2. Hartford finishes off the regular season with a 16-30 overall record and 5-13 in conference play, while Maine drops to 8-35 on the year with a 4-12 conference record. With the sweep of the series, the Hawks have clinched the five seed for the America East Playoffs.

Maine wasted no time getting off to a quick start, taking an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Hartford was able to respond immediately after in the bottom half when

Emma Curry capitalized on a passed ball opportunity. Still in the first, Hartford's starter,
Julianna Kocenski helped herself out at the plate by blasting a three-run shot over the left field fence to take a 5-1 lead into the second. Maine tacked on one run in the top half after advancing a baserunner home when
Paige Fedak and
Haley Cassidy combined to turn a 6-3 double play. In the sixth, Cassidy capped off the Hartford scoring output by lining an RBI single up the middle to bring home
Isabella Therrien from second. After the early runs were scored by the Black Bears, Kocenski shut down the Maine offense, stifling their lineup and not leaving a single runner on base throughout the final five innings of the game as Hartford walked away victorious, 6-2.
