Wentz Receives 2022 Laura Johnson Leadership Award

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – University of Hartford's men's and women's track and field/cross country head coach Stacie Wentz received the 2022 Laura Johnson Leadership Award, the Women's Advancement Initiative Board of Directors announced.

The award is presented to women faculty and staff members who honor the spirit of Laura Johnson, the third dean and first president of Hartford College for Women. Laura Johnson was known for her vision, leadership, and empowerment of others.

"Laura Johnson was a visionary in the area of leadership within higher education," said Wentz. "I'm so fortunate to be a recipient of this award and look forward to carrying on her empowerment through the athletes I coach and other young female coaches in this field."

Since 2008, the Laura Johnsons leaders' program has provided leadership and professional development training to eight cohorts of women faculty and staff. This dynamic two-year program builds community and encourages participants to engage in professional, campus or personal development projects. To date, 126 faculty and staff have participated from across the University, and more than 20 percent have gone on to advanced leadership roles.

Wentz and the men's and women's track and field teams are preparing for their post season slate, starting with the America East Championship competition this weekend.
