Blevins, Loughman Net Career Highs

WENHAM, MASS – The University of Hartford women's basketball team remained unbeaten against Commonwealth Coast Conference opponents as the Hawks held on for the 71-65 win Saturday over Gordon inside the Bennett Center.

Sophomore Paige Loughman scored in double figures for the first time in her career, scoring 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting and a career-high five rebounds. Freshman Taryn Blevins added a career-high 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.

Hartford took control of the game as back-to-back three pointers by Blevins capped a 10-2 run enabling the Hawks to build a seven-point lead. While Hartford never surrendered its lead, the Scots kept fighting back.

Another spurt, this time 8-2, gave Hartford its first double-digit lead of the game. The Hawks took an 11-point bulge into the locker room.

The lead hovered around double figures for most of the third quarter, but Gordon had another run in it as the Scots pulled to within four by ending the stanza on a 7-0 run.

Three different players scored almost immediately to start the final frame, pushing the advantage back to 10 points and leading to a GC timeout. The Scots got to within four points on four occasions but couldn't get over the hump.

INSIDE THE BOX & NOTES
  • Blevins has now scored at least 20 points in back-to-back games and three times this season.
  • Freshman Adrianna McCoy finished with 11 points, marking the fifth time in six games she has scored double figures.
  • Coming into the game, McCoy had 10 total rebounds in five games. She pulled down six in the first half and finished with a career-high seven boards. She tied a career-high with four assists.
  • Hartford made their first nine free throws before a miss in the third quarter.
  • All nine players found the scorebook and played at least 15 minutes.
WHAT'S NEXT
Hartford (4-2 overall, 2-0 CCC opponents) will be off for a week before returning to the court 2 p.m. December 9, hosting Bryant & Stratton. The athletic department will be hosting a Food & Coat Drive in lieu of admission, the department is requesting two non-perishable items.
