NEW BRITAIN, CONN. – The University of Hartford softball team couldn't find the clutch hit Sunday as the Hawks fell to Central Connecticut State Sunday, 1-0, at the CCSU Softball Field.
The lone run came in the bottom of the fourth inning as the Blue Devils got a two-out, two-strike single.
Hartford had opportunities in back-to-back innings to push a run across the plate.
Graduate student
Kelsey Galevich, after falling behind 0-2, worked a leadoff walk in the fourth. She moved to second on an opposite-field single by freshman
Emily Coffey. However, a pair of strikeouts and a flyout ended the threat.
Galevich and Coffey recorded back-to-back, one-out singles in the sixth inning. But that threat ended with a line out, double play.
Caylee English, 2-2, suffered the hard-luck loss, allowing one earned run on five hits over five innings of work. She finished with seven strikeouts and just one walk.
