Hawks' Hard-Fought Battle Ends in a Tough Loss

Box Score MILTON MA. – A basket with 2.3 seconds remaining sent the University of Hartford women's basketball team to a 59-56 loss to Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Curry College Saturday inside the Dr. Eleanor Meyerhoff Katz Gymnasium. 
 
Hartford had a chance to take the lead, but an offensive foul on the inbound turned it over, and the Colonels sealed the win with a pair of free throws. 
 
The Hawks showed resilience in the third quarter, scoring the last seven points, with freshman Kendall Rieman contributing four of her nine points in the final 57 seconds. Despite trailing by as much as 10 points, Hartford narrowed the gap to just five points by the end of the third quarter.
 
Freshman Ella Marchesani ignited the fourth quarter with a three-pointer, cutting the lead to two points. Three minutes later, Adriana McCoy's three-pointer gave the Hawks their first lead since the first quarter. Although Hartford showcased their best three-point shooting in the fourth quarter, going 3-for-6, Curry quickly responded, reclaiming the lead with Olivia Gourdine's three-pointer. The lead exchanged hands until freshman Kristen Trembly's three-pointer gave Hartford its final lead. The Hawks turned it over on its last couple of possessions to enable the Colonels to steal the victory.
 
The game was evenly split between the teams, with Curry winning the first two quarters and Hartford taking the last two. Despite Curry's three-point solid shooting in the first quarter, the Hawks outscored them in bench points (17-8). Hartford struggled from beyond the arc, shooting 25%, while Curry outscored them 17-7 in the second quarter.
 
McCoy led Hartford with 20 points, while freshman Madison Baird contributed six rebounds and a game-high five steals.

  • Every player who saw the floor secured at least one rebound.
  • Hartford outscored Curry in bench points, tallying 17 compared to Curry's 8.
  • Hartford shot 10-for-15 from the free-throw line.

  • Sidnee Bowden extended her streak, leading in blocks for the eighth consecutive game.
