BIDDEFORD, Maine - In a hard-fought battle, the University of Hartford women's basketball team fell short, 64-61, in losing to Commonwealth Coast Conference foe the University of New England Tuesday inside the Harold Alfond Forum.

Hartford won three of the four quarters, but it was the third quarter that cost the Hawks. The Nor'easters scored on their first five, and seven of the first eight possessions coming out of halftime and shot 56.2 (9-of-16) from the floor outscoring Hartford, 25-12. Meanwhile, the Hawks shot a game-low 20 percent (3-of-15) from the floor in the frame.

After freshman Ava Naszimento scored the opening bucket of the half to push the Hartford lead to nine points, UNE began to chip away. But, it was a 15-3 run that ended the third quarter to transform a six-point lead into a six-point deficit.

Hartford trailed by as much as six in the fourth quarter but had a chance to tie. Naszimento's three-point play with 16 seconds remaining, pulled Hartford to within three, and UNE missed a pair of free throws with two seconds remaining. However, the Hawks couldn't get the potential game-winning shot off.
