WBB Falls in High-Scoring Affair

Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. – In a high-scoring affair, the University of Hartford women's basketball was outscored by 13 points in the third quarter and ultimately fell to Nichols Tuesday, 100-89, inside the Nichols Athletic Center.

The biggest advantage for the Bison in the quarter came at the free throw line as Nichols marched to the line 14 times to Hartford's four. During the pivotal stretch that ended the quarter, Nichols went on a 16-4 run. They were 5-of-7 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from three-point range.

Freshman Taryn Blevins led the team with a career-high 26 points on 8-of-16 shooting and a career-high nine rebounds. Freshman Ella Marchesani battled foul trouble, but scored 16 points in just 20 minutes, while freshman Ava Naszimento added 13 points and six rebounds. Freshman Adrianna McCoy contributed 10 points and seven assists.

It was a game of runs in the first half with Nichols leading by as much as eight and Hartford by seven, but it was the Bison that held the one-point lead going into half.

Hartford had one last gasp in them with a 10-0 run at the beginning of the fourth to get to within nine. But, ultimately the Hawks ran out of gas.

  • Blevins has now scored at least 20 points four times this season, the first since December 2.
  • Freshman Sidnee Bowden pulled down double-digit rebounds for the second time this season with 10 boards.
  • Hartford committed a season-high 40 turnovers. In two games against Nichols, the Hawks turned the ball over 78 times.
  • Two players Hartford players fouled out as 57 fouls total fouls were called. The two teams combined for 61 free throw attempts.
  • Freshman Jaida Cunningham scored eight points, all in the first half, in seven minutes of action.
  • Nichols played 12 players, only one with more than 23 minutes, while Hartford played 9, four with more than 23 minutes – including McCoy with 39 and Blevins with 36.
WHAT'S NEXT
Hartford (8-9 overall, 4-6 CCC opponents) welcomes Wentworth to the Chase Family Arena 1 p.m. Saturday. It will be the first time the teams will meet as the first one was postponed with no official date decided.
