The beat keeps on playing for the University of Hartford softball team as the Hawks claimed their fourth straight doubleheader sweep, taking a pair of games from Nichols Saturday at the Hartford Softball Field.
Â
GAME ONE: HARTFORD 4, NICHOLS 0
Sophomore
Carly Mayhood (9-2) allowed just four hits in recording her first complete game shutout of the season as the Hawks took the opener.
                                     Â
Hartford opened the scoring in the second inning as freshman Haley Pruitt drove home freshman
Adelie Beebe, who opened the frame with a single, on a two-out single.
Â
Back-to-back doubles by Beebe and sophomore
Taylor Fitch capped the three-run third inning as Hartford took advantage of a pair of Nichols errors to score three unearned runs.
Â
Mayhood handled the Bison for the rest of the game for the win.
Â
Beebe and Fitch were both 2-for-3 on the game with Beebe scoring two runs.
Â
GAME TWO: HARTFORD 6, NICHOLS 5 (9 INN.)
Sophomore
Gia Miccio had four productive trips to the plate, the latter a sacrifice fly that brought home the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Hartford completed the sweep.
Â
Miccio was almost singlehandedly responsible for the tying run in the seventh inning. She opened the inning with a single, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a throwing error on the same play. She finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Â
After Nichols took the lead in the first inning, it was Miccio who jumpstarted the three-run third with the Hawks' first hit of the game, a single. She came around the score the tying run on a single by sophomore
Shailynn Williams, who would score the third run of the inning.
Â
The Bison took the lead with a run in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth.
Â
Freshman
Alexis Sealey (7-2) earned the win in relief, allowing two earned runs – three total – on five hits over five innings.
