Hawks Women's Basketball Shines in 2025 Finale Defeating UMass Dartmouth 72-44

BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Hartford women's basketball team ended the year of 2025 in a special way defeating UMass Dartmouth by a 72-44 final in the final game of the Judy Pearson '85 Memorial Tournament hosted by Babson College. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Hawks jumped ahead 11-2 over the first six minutes of play highlighted by five points for junior Lauren Sabia (Simsbury, Conn.). Junior Ava Naszimento (Secaucus, N.J.) finished home a paint layup after a Corsair bucket and Sabia would end the first quarter scoring with Hartford on top 15-4.
  • Naszimento once again scored to start the second quarter, but UMass Dartmouth would answer with eight-straight points to cut the Hawk lead to 17-12. Hartford would respond with a 9-0 spurt capped off by an old fashioned three-point play finished by freshman Gabrielle Matthews (Raleigh, N.C.). The Corsairs tried to get the game within reach, but Hartford once again would end the quarter strong with a 9-0 run to hold a 35-14 lead. 
  • Junior Taryn Blevins (St. Louis, Mo.) would score the first five points for Hartford in the second half as the lead pushed to 24 points. UMass Dartmouth would score the next five-points, but junior Ella Marchesani (Saddle Brook, N.J.) would respond with five-consecutive points of her own. Later in the quarter the Hawks went on another 8-2 run as the lead hit a game-high 31 points. The Coirsairs would end the quarter with a 5-0 run as they trailed by a 56-30 margin into the final 10 minutes. 
  • The teams would trade buckets over the first three minutes of the fourth with Hartford leading 60-33. Senior Paige Loughman (Bernardston, Mass.) would knock down a three, but UMass Dartmouth continued to thrive scoring five-straight as the lead was down to 65-43. The Hawks would end the game strong on a 7-1 run to win by the 72-44 margin. 
Inside The Numbers:
  • Sabia continues her scorching streak scoring 17 points (7-10 FG, 1-3 3PT, 2-3 FT) to go with five rebounds and two assists. Lauren has now scored in double-figures in her last four games after returning from injury on December 3rd. 
  • Naszimento finished the game with 11 points (5-7 FG, 1-2 FT) to go with three boards. Matthews tallied 10 points (3-6 FG, 0-1 3PT, 4-5 FT), five rebounds and two assists. Freshman Allie Shenloogian (Park Ridge, N.J.) put together six points (3-3 FG), five rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Loughman added five points (2-6 FG, 1-3 3PT) and six rebounds in the win. 
  • Kaila Pruitt led the Coirsairs with nine points (3-9 FG, 3-8 3PT), three rebounds and two assists. 
  • The Hawks dominated in the paint holding a 38-6 advantage, while also scoring 23 points off turnovers compared to just seven for the Coirsairs.
