WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford women's basketball team fell to #6 Bowdoin College on Tuesday night in the final game for the Hawks before the holiday break.
Rapid Recap:
- The teams had a slow start in the first quarter with Hartford owning a 4-0 lead after three minutes. The Polar Bears would score the next eight points in the quarter as the home team trailed by four points. The last minute had a good flurry of offense as Bowdoin would take a 13-11 lead into the second quarter.
- The Polar Bears jumped out to a 19-12 lead after two minutes in the second. Junior Ava Naszimento (Secaucus, N.J.) would respond with an old fashioned three-point play to get the Hawks right back in the game. Bowdoin would score six-straight following that bucket, but Hartford would counter with a 9-0 run highlighted by eight points going to junior Lauren Sabia (Simsbury, Conn.). The visitors would respond again eventually taking a six point advantage into halftime.
- Bowdoin came out for the second half strong going on a 10-0 run as the lead ballooned to 42-26. Junior Ella Marchesani (Saddle Brook, N.J.) would score six points as Hartford would end the third quarter trailing by 15 points.
- The Polar Bears would go on a 6-1 run to open the fourth, stopped by a Marchesani three. Sabia would add a triple of her own to cut the deficit to 15 points with 5:00 minutes to play. Naszimento would take over the next stretch scoring five points in a row to cut the lead to just 12 points, but Hartford would run out of time falling by the 62-48 margin.
Inside The Numbers:
- Sabia led the offense off the bench with a season-high 15 points (6-13 FG, 3-7 3PT, 0-3 FT) to go with five rebounds and two steals. Naszimento tallied 15 points (3-11 FG, 9-12 FT) and nine rebounds. Marchesani added 12 points (4-9 FG, 2-3 3PT, 2-3 FT) and six boards.
- Carly Davey paced the Polar Bears with 19 points on a scoring 7-8 from the floor and 5-5 from deep. Grace Kinum added 14 points (5-8 FG, 2-4 3PT, 2-4 FT), nine rebounds and five assists in th win.
- The Polar Bears used a 19-6 fast break advantage in the win as well as a 28-18 points in the paint differential.

The Hawks will head to holiday break with a 3-6 record on the season and will be back in action on December 29th.
