WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – On Tuesday, Hartford women's basketball head coach Jackie Smith announced the hiring of Miranda Nixon as an assistant coach. Nixon was a former division I student-athlete at Holy Cross and has been coaching since 2019 in her home state of Pennsylvania.
"We are thrilled to welcome Miranda Nixon to our Hartford Women's Basketball staff", said Smith. "Miranda gained valuable experience competing at a high level during her time at Holy Cross and has spent the last several years building a strong reputation coaching at the high school and AAU levels. She brings tremendous knowledge of post play, and her ability to connect with young players and help them reach their potential will be a huge asset to our program. For a sport like women's basketball where the season is long and demanding, recruiting is constant, and the expectations are high it is vital that we have the support and expertise necessary to compete at the highest level. In a program with such a rich tradition of winning, this step forward is not only exciting but essential to continuing that legacy."
Nixon most recently has been the head coach of the 15u-17u Central Pa. Alyssa Thomas Elite EYCL team since December of 2022. She has also been the head junior varsity and varsity assistant coach at Trinity High School since June of 2019. In the time at Trinity, Nixon has achieved 2 District 3 PIAA Championships and multiple state playoff appearances.
"I'm incredibly grateful and excited for the opportunity to join the Hartford women's basketball program", said Nixon. "This program has a strong tradition, and I look forward to building on it while helping our student-athletes grow on and off the court. I can't wait to get started and be a part of the Hartford community."
Nixon made 71 appearances for the Crusaders at Holy Cross from 2015-2019.
A native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Nixon graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in May of 2019 with a bachelor's in Sociology.
