Hawks Close out Regular Season with 60-45 Victory over University of New England

BIDDEFORD, Maine - The Hawks traveled to the Pine State as they faced off against Conference of New England (CNE) opponent University of New England. Hartford would come out on top and secure a home playoff matchup against the Nor'Easters as they were victorious 60-45.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Hawks would find themselves on the leading end of a 7-5 advantage by the end of the first quarter, with buckets coming from junior Kendall Rieman (Chicago, Ill), senior Paige Loughman (Bernardston, Mass.), and junior Ella Marchesani (Saddle Brook, N.J.). 
  • In the second quarter, Hartford would jump ahead expanding their lead by way of some big buckets from freshman Allie Shenloogian (Park Ridge, N.J.) as well as a layup and 4-26 three pointer from junior Lauren Sabia (Simsbury, Conn.). The Nor'easters would fight their way back into the game, as the Hawks would end the first half with a 20-19 advantage. 
  • Shenloogian and Sabia would continue to run the show for the Hawks, as their offensive inputs would build a nine point advantage for Hartford as they would score nine unanswered in the early goings of the second half. The Hawks would continue to expand their lead, with a pair of buckets coming from freshman Gabrielle Matthews (Raleigh, N.C.), and a three pointer from junior Sidnee Bowden (Canton, Ohio), as the Hawks would end the third quarter with a 44-31 lead. 
  • The fourth quarter would see Hartford maintain and expand on their lead as Shenloogian would continue to find her way to the bucket, pretty soon on the Nor'Easters would continuously send the Hawks to the free throw line. And the Hawks would come out on top 60-45 through regulation. 
Inside the Numbers: 
  • Shenloogian would end the game with 17 points (6-9 FG, 0-1 3PT, 5-7 FT) to go along with seven rebounds. Sabia would finish with 15 points (6-11 FG, 1-3 3PT, 2-4 FT) to go along with seven rebounds and an assist. Marchesani would finish with eight points (2-10 FG, 1-3 3PT, 3-4 FT) to go along with four rebounds and two steals. 
  • The Hawks would shoot 21-52 from the field (40.4%) 4-16 from long range (25%)
  • Hartford would force 17 turnovers, and be able to capitalize scoring 21 points off turnovers.

With this win, the Hawks clinch a home playoff game this Tuesday, February 24th against ranked #5 in the Conference of New England (CNE) Tournament University of New England yet again with a tip-off time of 7:00 P.M.
