BOSTON, Mass. - The Hartford women's basketball team improved to 12-9 on the season and 9-3 in the Conference of New England (CNE) on Tuesday night defeating Suffolk University by a 56-42 final.
Rapid Recap:
- The Hawks jumped in front 5-0 as senior Paige Loughman (Bernardston, Mass.) drilled a three followed by a jumper for junior Ella Marchesani (Saddle Brook, N.J.). The Rams would get on the scoreboard at the 6:47 mark of the first quarter, but after a layup for junior Ava Naszimento (Secaucus, N.J.) the Hawks maintained their five-point edge. Junior Taryn Blevins (St. Louis, Mo.) would knock down a three to kick start a 10-2 closing run of the first quarter that kept Hartford in front 17-8.
- Suffolk would get the first bucket of the second quarter after two and a half minutes to trim the lead to 17-10. The Hawks finally got on the board after four and a half minutes with a jumper for Blevins. The Rams did a good job chipping away cutting the deficit to 24-19 as we headed into break outscoring Hartford 11-7 in the second.
- Loughman would start the second half how she started the first half, knocking down a three as the Hawks led 27-19. Junior Lauren Sabia (Simsbury, Conn.) added another from behind the arc later on as the Hawk lead was six points with 7:38 to play. Naszimento capped off the 7-0 run for the Hawks as the lead hit 35-25. Suffolk once again chipped away over the next five minutes going on a 10-4 advantage stopped by a Blevins three. The Rams got a buzzer-beater waved off to end the third as the home team trailed by seven points with 10 minutes to play.
- Naszimento kicked off the fourth quarter with a fancy finish in the paint and then a pair of free throws to get the lead back to double-digits. The Rams would counter with a five-point spurt, but Hartford would punch right back with eight-consecutive points to push the lead out of reach for the Rams. The Hawks would end the game winning by a 56-42 final.

Taryn Blevins (St. Louis, Mo.). "After a tough loss we were ready to get back out there and handle business to prepare us for the playoffs."
Inside The Numbers:
- Blevins led the Hawks in the win scoring 10 points (3-7 FG, 2-3 3PT, 2-2 FT) to go with five assists, three rebounds and two steals. Naszimento produced 14 points (5-7 FG, 4-6 FT), five rebounds, three assists and a block. Marchesani tallied 10 points (3-10 FG, 1-3 3PT, 3-4 FT) and a pair of steals, while Loughman added seven points (2-2 FG, 2-2 3PT, 1-2 FT) and three rebounds in the win.
- Allison Bono led the Rams with 10 points (4-14 FG, 0-2 3PT, 2-2 FT), six boards and three steals. Claire Berkowitz added 10 points (4-9 FG, 2-4 3PT) and two rebounds in the loss.
- The Hawks knocked down six three-pointers compared to just two for Suffolk, while Hartford also held a 22-14 points off turnovers advantage in the victory.
- The Hawks currently sit in 4th in the CNE standings with a conference record of 9-3 with four conference games to play.
