The Alumni Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 1991 to honor those individuals from the University of Hartford family whose outstanding contributions in the areas of athletics achievement, coaching, administration, professional achievement, service and program development have brought pride and prestige to the University and its athletic program.
Each year, the Hall of Fame Class includes the designation of three awards designed to honor the University’s past. They are the Vincent Brown Coffin Award, the A. Peter LoMaglio Award and the Pioneer award. The Coffin Award, named after the University’s first President, is given for professional achievement by a former student-athlete. The LoMaglio Award, named after the University’s first director of athletics, is a given for service to athletics. The Pioneer Award is given to an individual who played an important role in the development of a program. All honoree are considered Hall of Fame members.
“Hall of Fame classes sometimes have narrow perspectives where contributions from people fall under a single category - athletics achievement, for example.” said Director of Athletics Pat Meiser. “We feel, however, so many people have impacted our athletics program in so many ways, some in more ways than one, that we need to be inclusive and give them the honor of being a “Hall of Famer.”
Current NBA Executive Vice President Kathy Behrens ‘85, and long-time State athletics administrator C. Donald Cook, will be among nine to be recognized at the 2014 Alumni Athletics Hall of Fame Dinner to be held at the 1877 Club on campus May 10.
Behrens will receive the Vincent Brown Coffin Award, while Cook will receive the Pioneer Award. Joining them in the Class of 2014 will be former women’s soccer coach Austin Daniels (1989-95), women’s soccer player Dr. Katharina Lindner ’03, men’s soccer player Jason Marlovits ’97, women’s basketball player Erika Messam ’06, men’s golfer John Parsons ’88, and men’s track competitor Chris Spivey ’07.
