Michael Cameron enters his second year as a member of the Hartford men’s and women’s track and field team’s coaching staff in 2020-21. He joined the staff as the Hawks’ throwing coach in 2019 after a stellar career at Southern Connecticut State University.
During his short tenure at Hartford, Cameron has made an immediate impact on the Hawks’ throwers. His student-athletes have found great success on the field, breaking multiple school records while scoring points for Hartford at the 2020 America East Track and Field Indoor Championship. Highlighting the Hawks’ performances at the Championship was Dylan Murad, who placed seventh in the shot put and broke the program’s school record in the event under Cameron’s guidance.
Cameron began his coaching career at his alma mater, Southern Connecticut. Spending two years with the Owls as an assistant coach, he worked with the team’s throwers and coached a pair of Northeast-10 champions.
Cameron makes his Division I coaching debut after a standout collegiate career at Southern Connecticut. A three-time Northeast Conference Field Athlete of the Year, he also earned NCAA All-American honors in both the shot put and discus four times.
A Kingston, Jamaica, native, Cameron graduated from Southern Connecticut in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies, with a concentration in business administration and German, in 2016.
