Amani Franklin enters her first season as an assistant coach for the Hartford women’s basketball team in 2021-22. Franklin joins the Hawks’ coaching staff after spending the previous three seasons as an assistant women's basketball coach at Robert Morris.
During her time at Robert Morris, Franklin was a part of a coaching staff that led the program to a pair of Northeast Conference (NEC) Regular-Season Championship in 2017-18 and 2019-20. In her three seasons with the program, the Colonials posted a 52-28 record (.650 percentage), which included a 37-15 mark in league play (.712 winning percentage).
In addition, the Colonials earned a bid to the Postseason Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) with Franklin’s guidance 2018-19, while in 2019-20, the team advanced to the NEC Tournament semifinals before the COVID-19 pandemic put an abrupt end to the season.
Prior to her arrival at Robert Morris, Franklin spent the 2016-17 season at Winthrop as the team’s director of women’s basketball operations. Before that stint, she spent two years as a staff support associate at her alma mater, Kentucky. In that position, Franklin’s duties included management of day-to-day operations in addition to oversight of the women’s basketball booster organization, travel arrangements and special events.
During her collegiate career at Kentucky, Franklin helped lead the Wildcats to the Elite Eight of the 2010 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. She appeared in 127 games over her four seasons in a Wildcats’ uniform, making starts in 76 of those contests. Tallying a career-high 11.3 points per game in her junior season, Franklin averaged 7.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per contest as a senior in 2009-10.
Franklin graduated from Kentucky in 2010 with a Bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics with a minor in business.
