George Connor enters his fourth full season as an assistant coach for the Hartford women’s golf team in 2021-22. Joining the staff in April 2018, he brings more than 30 years of coaching and teaching experience to the Hawks.
Connor has helped make program in his short time with the Hawks. He capped off his first full season by guiding Maria Loza to the 2019 MAAC Individual Championship, making her just the second Hartford women’s golfer — and the first since 2010 — to take top-billing at a league championship.
Most recently, Connor helped Loza become the first player in program history to repeat as the MAAC Individual Champion as the recent graduate accomplished the feat in 2021.
Graduating with the lowest career scoring average in program history — a 76.31 mark over four years — Loza also owns the top-two single-season stroke averages in program history. After setting the school record with a 75.53 stroke average during Connor’s first season in 2018-19, Loza went on to her own record in 2019-20 after averaging a 75.42 score.
A three-time recipient of the Connecticut Section PGA Teacher of the Year who most recently earned the honor in 2018, Connor has been recognized by various organizations and publications for his talents and abilities as a golf instructor.
Connor is also the Owner and Director of Instruction of ConnorGolf, located at Farmington Woods Golf Club in Avon, Conn. In that role, he coaches golfers of different caliber, ranging from beginners to highly competitive individuals. Prior to his current stint, Connor worked for several years at both the Hartford Golf Club and Gillette Ridge.
Listed by Golf Digest as one of the top instructors in Connecticut and by Golf Magazine as one of the top instructors in the Northeast, Connor has experience coaching golfers from a wide range of skill levels, including players on the PGA Latinoamérican Tour, PGA Tour Canada and the European Challenge Tour, as well as local amateur champions.
Connor has achieved a variety of certifications in golf instruction. He is certified in instruction by the Professional Golfer's Association, is a certified AimPoint Instructor and is advanced certified by the SeeMore Putting Institute. In addition, Connor is a certified Titleist Performance Institute Instructor.
In addition to his awards and certifications, Connor is the author of "Drill Your Way to Great Putting: Make Putting Fun and Productive," which guides golfers to practice their way to great putting.
