As a faculty member in the School of Communication Susan Cardillo teaches in the Digital Media and Journalism major. Her concentration is in both sports media and social engagement media. Dr. Cardillo is a tenured faculty and has been teaching at the University of Hartford for 8 years. Some of her scholarly projects include, Finding Matilda, a film about a young college student who was murdered during World War II for being Jewish. For this project Professor Cardillo brought five students to Lithuania for filming. Another project entitled, Gay Spirit Radio: The Keith Brown Story, is about the longest running gay radio show in the United States and the show’s host of more than 40 years. Her most recent project is Sport That Keeps on Giving: Stories of Special Olympics Connecticut.Â
Professor Cardillo has also written numerous articles on pedagogies of teaching digital media as well as a book chapter, A Festschrift in Honor of Richard Freund: “A Legacy of Ideas, Research and Teaching About the Holocaust, honoring her long-time friend and mentor, Dr. Richard Freund.Â
Professor Cardillo is the FAR (Faculty Athletic Representative) for the NCAA at the University of Hartford and she is involved with many of the athletics initiatives. She also teaches and trains students in the sports trailer to film and stream live game day coverage.Â
Her courses prepare students to work with sports production companies. She has helped students get jobs at; ESPN, NBC-Sports, CBS-Sports, MLB/NHL, NBA and the NFL. She also teaches Editing, Field-production, Historical Video Production, Social Justice Production and CRD (Career Readiness and Development). She is member of both the budget and sabbatical committees.Â
Professor Cardillo prides herself for being an advocate for students, especially when it comes to getting them jobs as they graduate.
