Ted Stavropoulos

Ted Stavropoulos, currently the Senior Associate Athletic Director/Sports Center Director, has been a part of the University of Hartford’s Department of Athletics for more than 30 years. Starting out as the head coach of Hartford’s women’s soccer team in 1984, he became a full-time member of the department in July 1985 when he assumed the title of assistant athletic director for facilities. His responsibilities include overseeing the areas of facility management, intramurals, club sports and free play activity while managing the day-to-day operations of all athletic facilities, the department’s equipment room and event management.

During his tenure at Hartford, Stavropoulos has served as the host site coordinator for six America East Basketball Championships as well as assisting in hosting President Barack Obama in May 2013. He is also a member of the Athletics Directors Council.

One of the department’s longest tenured staff members, Stavropoulos was named the head women’s soccer coach in 1984. Over his five-year tenure, he brought the program to a level of national respect, leading the Hawks to their first national ranking – the number eight spot in the nation – in 1986 while taking the squad to three ECAC Division I Tournament appearances. Stavropoulos amassed a 47-35-10 career record, good for a .565 win percentage. Four NSCAA All-Region honorees also highlighted his coaching career at Hartford.

A 1977 graduate of Southern Connecticut State University where he earned a degree in physical education and served as the goalkeeper of the men’s soccer team, Stavropoulos served as the junior varsity coach for his alma mater during the 1977 seasons. He then went on to serve as an assistant boys’ coach at Glastonbury High School from 1978-80. Before landing at Hartford, he piloted the Farmington High School girls’ soccer team to a number one ranking in New England in 1983 as the squad’s head coach.

Stavropoulos was also actively involved with the Connecticut select team program, spending eight years as the U17 Boys’ State Select coach while also coaching the U19 Girls’ State Select Team.

Stavropoulos resides in Marlborough, Conn., with his wife Maria. They have twin daughters, Eleftheria and Yeorgia.
