Loudonville, NY - The University of Hartford women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to the Siena Saints in their first road dual match of the season. The Hawks are now 0-2 in dual match play for the 2007-08 season.
The Hawks only point of the match came at number two singles, where Kasey Michels defeated Lauren Moy in three games. Michels dropped the first set of the match by a 6-4 score but came back to dominate the second set 6-1, forcing the third-set tie breaker, which she won 11-9.
Siena took home the doubles point to open the match with victories in all three doubles flights. Moy and Sarah Mayer defeated Michels and Raquel Casino by an 8-4 decision. The Hawks Nikki Haynal and Hali Dorfman took Jessica Asselin and Lauren Garbade into extra games before falling by a 9-7 decision in second doubles. Jessica Ruggles and Michelle Tafur dropped the third doubles match by an 8-3 score to Dinka Keric and Bridget Finnerty.
Mayer opened singles play with a straight set win over Casino, 6-3, 6-2. Haynal dropped the third singles point to Asselin by scores of 6-1, 6-2. Dorfman forced Garbade into a tie breaker set before falling in the fourth singles position (4-6, 6-2, 11-9). Ruggles dropped the fifth singles (6-1, 6-3) point to Jennifer Messing with Tafur falling at sixth singles (6-1, 6-1) to Keric.
The Hawks will close out the fall season at the New England Championships next weekend. The NE's will be held at Fairfield on October 13 and 14 with a 9:00 a.m, start time on both days.
