Men's Tennis Falls to Holy Cross 5-2

, CT - The University of Hartford men's tennis team hosted the College of the Holy Cross on Wednesday evening in its first dual match of the 2007 season. The Crusaders posted a 5-2 victory, with Hartford winning in the fifth and sixth singles positions. The match was a welcome home of sorts for first year head coach Mike Raymond, a Rockville High School graduate.

 

Holy Cross took the doubles point with 8-0 scores in the first and second doubles position. The Crusaders then scored the first three singles points with wins in the first, second and third positions. Matt Wierzal defeated Emmett Drake in the first singles flight (6-0, 6-0). Will White dropped the second singles flight to Angelo Sica by scores of 6-1, 6-2 and Tim Glickman fell to John Burke in the third singles flight by  a 6-1, 6-0 margin.

 

The Hawks then scored their first points of the match in the sixth singles position where Fil Miletic defeated Tom Steinert by a 6-1, 6-4 margin. Aaron Kooden then defeated Kevin Leggio in the fifth singles flight by a 4-6, 6-1 (10-8) score. The Crusaders would win the final point by a 6-4, 6-3 margin, with Dan Phelan defeating Eddie Hoey.

 

The Hawks will be back in action on Wednesday, October 3 when they host Boston University at the Hartford Tennis Courts at 3:00 p.m.
