Women's Tennis Opens 2007 at Fairfield Doubles Tournament

, CT ? The University of Hartford women's tennis team opened play in 2007 at the Fairfield Doubles Tournament on Saturday. The Hawks finished in eighth place in the flights one and two and sixth place in flight three. The men's team will compete at the Fairfield Doubles Tournament on Sunday.

Raquel Casino and Kasey Michels competed in flight one for the Hawks. Competing in round robin pool B, they opened with a loss to the New Jersey Institute of Technology 8-0. They then lost to Quinnipiac 8-1 and Sacred Heart 8-2 before playing Providence in the seventh place match, where they lost by an 8-5 margin.

 

The Hawks second flight consisted of Jessica Ruggles and Hali Dorfman. The two opened in round robin pool B, dropping an 8-2 decision to NJIT. They went on to drop an 8-1 decision to Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart before falling to Providence in the seventh place match by an 8-1 score.

Michelle Tafur and Nikki Haynal competed in the final flight and saw the only victory of the day for Hartford with an 8-6 decision over NJIT in the opening match in round robin pool B. They went on drop an 8-0 decision to Quinnipiac and an 8-2 decision to Sacred Heart, before playing Providence in the fifth place match, falling 8-0.

 

The women's team will next compete at Siena on Saturday, September 22 at 10:30 a.m.
