Women's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision to UMBC on Sunday

The University of Hartford women's soccer team dropped its second-straight 1-0 decision on the road, this time to the UMBC Retrievers on Sunday in Baltimore. Hartford outshot the Retrievers 23-7, but could not find the back of the net.

The only score of the game came in the first half when Rachel McKee connected with Sandra Vacarino in the 32nd minute. McKee used Vacarino's pass, which split the defense, to beat Hawks keeper Lauren Brodeur one-on-one inside the box.

The Hawks outshot UMBC in both halves, finishing with a 10-5 advantge in the first 45 minutes and then outshooting the Retrievers 13-2 in the second half. Hartford saw seven of those shots go on goal, forcing Retrievers keeper Mo Van Vlerah to make seven saves. Brodeur finished the game with three saves for Hartford.

Hartford also led the advantage in corner kicks with a 10-1 lead. Leading Hartford was Michele DeSanti and Laura Guigli who each finished with five shots. DeSanti had two of her shots go on goal.

The women's soccer team returns to West Hartford to host the Maine Black Bears on Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. at Al Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium.
