Baltimore, MD – The University of Hartford volleyball team returned to conference play for the first time since October 17, dropping a three-set match on the road against UMBC on Friday night. Hartford was led in the match by senior middle hitter Erin Macro who finished with eight kills.
Macro led the Hawks hitters with a .190 hitting percentage with four kills in 21 total attempts. Junior setter Lindsay Ford led the Hawks in hitting percentage with four kills and one error in nine total attempts for a .333 hitting percentage. As a team, the Hawks hit just .012 for the match with 26 kills and 25 errors in 84 total swings.
Senior Sarah Boss finished second in hitting for the Hawks with five kills, while three other players all added four, Ford, Maddison Molyneux and Michelle Cordell. Ford captained the Hawks offense, finishing the match with 19 assists.
Defensively, Boss led the team with nine digs, as all seven Hartford players finished with at least two digs. Hallie Fullagar was second for the Hawks with five digs, while Molyneux added four. Cordell led Hartford in blocking, finishing with a solo block and a block assist, a part of both Hartford blocks in the match.
Naomi Bush led all players in the match with nine kills, while the Retrievers finished the match hitting .324 with 33 kills and nine errors in 74 total attacks.
The Hawks will complete a two-conference match weekend with a Sunday afternoon matinee against the Stony Brook Seawolves. The Hawks and Seawolves are set to begin their Sunday match at 1:00 p.m.
