WGolf Finishes Third at America East Championship

ALBANY, NY - The University of Hartford women's golf team finished in third place out of three teams at the 2009 America East Championship on Sunday afternoon at Shaker Ridge Country Club.

The Hawks improved by a stroke on the second day to shoot 335 as a team, but it wasn't nearly enough. Albany, which held the lead entering the final round, shot 318 and won the title with a 36-hole total of 638. Boston University finished as runner-up at 664 while Hartford came in at 671.

BU's Ana Johnson held the individual lead at the start of the day but followed up her first round 75 with an 84. Albany's Corrin Conroy did the exact opposite, shooting the low round of the tournament--an even par 73--after posting an 82 on the first day. Her total of 155 was enough to eclipse Johnson by four strokes and claim individual medalist honors.

For the second straight day, senior Megan Claxton posted the best round by a Hartford golfer. Her round of 82 gave her a two-day total of 161, good enough for a tie for third place and all-conference honors. Freshman Emily Linn finished eighth at 168 while junior Paige Gauthier finished a shot back at 169 and tied for ninth. Rounding out the scoring for the Hawks were juniors Kara Sikorski (173, 13th) and Sadie Heald (183, 15th).

The tournament was the team's final of the spring season.
