Hawks Fall to Niagara 3-0, Nethersole, Ford Named to All-Tournament Team

– The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped its final match in the Niagara Invitational on Sunday in three sets to the host Purple Eagles. For their performances over the three-match invitational, freshman Kami Nethersole and junior Lindsay Ford were named to the All-Tournament team.

"Despite not achieving the desired outcome today, we were able to find out the areas we need the most improvements in," said head coach Don Ferguson. "This match was an important step in preparing us for conference play." 

Nethersole led the Hawks in their final match of the weekend, matching her previous season-high with 13 kills. She excelled from the floor hitting .286 for the match, with only three errors in 35 total attempts. The rookie also added an assist, a block assist and six digs.

Ford captained the Hawks offense with 25 assists, while adding a kill, four digs and two block assists. Erin Macro finished with seven kills against the Purple Eagles.

Defensively, the Hawks were led by Danielle Etta who finished with 16 digs, keeping her double digit digs streak alive, now at eight straight matches. Also compiling double digit digs was Hallie Fullagar who finished with 10 to go along with three kills. Michelle Cordell led the Hawks in blocking with five total blocks, one solo and four block assists.

Hartford's next match will be its home opener on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. against Marist College in the Sports Center on the West Hartford, CT campus.
