Cambridge, MA – The University of Hartford women's volleyball team (5-7 overall) dropped a pair of matches at the Boston College Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Hartford fell to the host Eagles (9-1 overall) and the Connecticut Huskies (7-8 overall), both in four sets. Hartford was led on the day by senior Erin Macro who finished with 13 kills against BC and 12 against Connecticut. She was named to the All-Tournament team for her weekend performance.
In the first match of the day, Hartford's only point in the match came in the third set with a 25-22 victory. The Hawks fell in sets one and two by scores of 25-18 and 25-16, respectively, and dropped the fourth set 25-21.
Against BC, Macro led the Hawks with 13 kills, the only Hartford player with double digit kills. She finished the match hitting .400 from the floor with only one error in 30 total attempts. Also hitting well for Hartford was freshman Kami Nethersole who finished with nine kills and senior Maddison Molyneux who added eight kills.
As a team, Hartford hit .200 from the field with 47 total kills and 19 errors in 140 total attempts. Hawks sophomore Michelle Cordell led the Hawks in hitting percentage in the first match with seven kills and no errors in 15 total attacks for a .467 percentage.
Junior setter Lindsay Ford finished the BC match with 35 assists, while also adding 10 digs, one of three players with double digs. The double double for Ford was the fourth of the season and her third-straight with double digits in the assists and digs columns.
Defensively, sophomore Danielle Etta led Hartford with 12 kills, while senior Hallie Fullagar added 11. Macro led Hartford's blocking efforts with four total blocks, one solo block and two block assists.
Boston College was led by Mollie Kolosky who finished with a match-high 22 kills and was one of three players with double digit kills for the Eagles. As a team, the Eagles finished with a .257 attack percentage with 60 total kills and 21 errors in 152 total attempts.
In the second match of the day, Hartford picked up its only match point in the first set with a 25-22 victory. After a back-and-forth second set, the Huskies tied the match with a 25-22 win and the scored won the match with scores of 25-17 and 25-15 in the final two sets.
Macro again led the Hawks in the second match, finishing with 12 kills, the only player to finish with double digit kills for Hartford. Nethersole finished second for Hartford with eight kills. Cordell led Hartford's hitting efforts with a .333 attack percentage with six total kills and one error in 15 total attacks.
As a team, Hartford hit .214 for the match with 46 total kills and 21 errors in 117 total attacks. Ford once again captained the Hartford offense, finishing with 28 assists.
Defensively, Etta again led Hartford against UConn, finishing with 13 digs, the only player to record double digit kills. Macro and Cordell finished tied in leading the Hawks blocking efforts with four each. Cordell finished with two block assists and two solo blocks, while Macro's four blocks were all block assists.
Leading the Huskies was Rebecca Murray who finished with 15 kills and was one of three players with double digit kills. Connecticut finished the match with 59 kills and 16 errors in 124 total attempts for a .347 attack percentage.
Hartford returns to the court for a single match at Bryant as it continues a seven-match road trip. The Hawks and Bulldogs are set to tangle on Tuesday night at 67:00 p.m.
