Hawks Volleyball Drops Home Opener to Marist in Four Sets

The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped its home opener in four sets (24-26, 25-20, 17-20, 17-20) to the Marist Red Foxes on Tuesday night. Hartford was led in the match by senior Erin Macro who finished with 11 kills.

 

Leading the Hawks hitting efforts was freshman Kami Nethersole, the reigning America East Rookie of the Week. Nethersole finished with 10 kills and four errors in 25 total attempts for a .240 attack percentage. Macro finished with six errors in 29 attempts for a .172 attack percentage. Also leading the Hawks hitters was Maddison Molyneux with eight kills and Michelle Cordell with seven kills. Cordell also led the Hawks blocking efforts with three total blocks.

Junior setter Lindsay Ford marshaled the Hawks offense, finishing with 36 assists, while senior Sarah Boss led the Hawks defense with 10 digs, the only Hawk with double digit digs.

 

Hartford finished the match hitting .115 from the floor with 44 kills and 29 errors in 130 total attacks. The Red Foxes finished with 47 total kills and 20 errors in 123 attempts for a .220 attack percentage. Joanna Foss led all players with 14 kills and was one of three Marist players with double figure kills, Lindsey Schmid (13) and Katie Estes (10). Schmid had an impressive outing from the floor with only three errors in 22 total attempts for a .455 attack percentage.

 

The Hawks return to action this weekend when they play in the Blue Devil Invitational at Central Connecticut State University. The Hawks open the tournament on Friday at 7:00 p.m. against NJIT. They then take on the Manhattan Jaspers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday before meeting the host Blue Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
