BOX SCORE
West Hartford, CT - The University of Hartford women's soccer team scored in the early minutes of the game and never allowed a goal to score a 2-0 win and the second shutout of the season.
Hartford's Breeanna Robinson scored what proved to be the game winning goal in the ninth minute off a pass from Amber Smyth. Smyth took a pass from Laura Guigli dribbled to the goal line and then passed across the goal line where Robinson was able to chip in her shot eluding the FDU keeper on the left side. The goal was the second of the season for Robinson.
The Hawks kept its narrow lead throughout the first half, allowing only one shot from FDU in the first half, which keeper Lauren Brodeur stopped. Hartford took five total shots in the first half, with Stephanie Tanzi making one stop.
The Hawks again scored early in the second half, this time in the beginning moments of the 57th minute when Alex Uscilla knocked in her team leading fourth shot of the season. Uscilla used a pass from Mary Beth Hamilton for the score. Hamilton sent a high shot deep into the box, where Uscilla was able to knock it down and elude the defense to blast a shot into the lower right corner of the net.
Both teams took six shots in the second half with Brodeur recording four second half saves to preserve her second shutout of the season and the eighth of her career. Tanzi made two saves in the second 45 minutes.
Hartford continues a three-game home stand with a mid-week matchup against the Stony Brook Seawolves to open the eight game conference schedule. The Hawks and Seawolves are scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium.
