Nethersole Leads Hawks with Nine Kills in 3-0 Loss to NJIT

The University of Hartford volleyball team (2-3 overall) dropped a three-set (25-17, 25-11, 25-18) match to the New Jersey Institute of Technology in its opening match of the CCSU Blue Devils Invitational on Friday night. Freshman Kami Nethersole led the Hawks for the third time this season, finishing with nine kills.

Nethersole led the Hawks in hitting with a .147 attack percentage with four errors in 34 total attempts. As a team, the Hawks hit. .047 with 30 kills and 23 errors in 120 total attacks.

As a team, Hartford's best hitting came in the first set where they finished .240 from the field with 16 kills and four errors in 50 total attempts. Nethersole also had her best set right out of the gate, finishing with no errors and six kills in 15 total attacks for a .400 hitting average.

Junior setter Lindsay Ford again led the Hawks in assists with 24 total. Senior's Maddison Molyneux and Erin Macro finished second on the team in hitting with seven kills each.

Defensively, the Hawks were led by sophomore defensive specialist Danielle Etta who matched her career-high with 19 digs. She was one of three players with double digit digs, with Molyneux adding 13 and Sarah Boss adding 10. Ford also led the team with two total blocks.

The Hawks will close out the CCSU Blue Devils Invitational on Saturday with an 11:00 a.m. match against Manhattan and a 6:30 p.m. match against the host Blue Devils.
