Women's Soccer Drops Sunday Matinee at Bryant 2-1

Smithfield, RI – The University of Hartford women's soccer team (2-2 overall) dropped a Sunday afternoon matinee on the road against the Bryant Bulldogs by a 2-1 final. The Hawks only goal came from freshman Caitlin Alves.

Hartford scored first in the 18th minute when Laura Guigli sent a pass through the defense where Alves scored from the left side past Bryant keeper Katie Mitchell. Bryant then tied the game in the 32nd minute when Stephanie Del Mistro scored unassisted, beating Hawks keeper Lauren Brodeur from the left side.

The Bulldogs put the game winning score on the board with the only goal in the second half as Kaitlyn Hinch scored on a header off a right side free kick attempt from Molly Wallace.

Brodeur finished the game with eight saves for Hartford, while Mitchell recorded seven total saves for the Bulldogs.

Hartford was outshot in each half and 11-18 for the game. The Bulldogs put up three more shots than the Hawks in the first half, 5-8, and put up four more in the second stanza (6-10). Bryant also won the corners battle with five total corners taken, compared to two from Hartford. The Hawks were also called off sides four times, compared to just one for Bryant.

Hartford begins a three-game home stand with the Fairfield Stags on Thursday, September 10, 2009. The Hawks and Stags are set for a 6:00 p.m. first kick.
