Binghamton Tops Hawks Volleyball in Three Sets

WEST HARTFORD, CT - The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped a three-set conference match (13-25, 16-25, 28-30) to the Binghamton Bearcats on Friday night at the Reich Family Pavilion. Hartford was led in the match by sophomore outside hitter Kami Nethersole who finished with 12 kills. Hartford is now 5-16 overall and 0-4 in conference action, while Binghamton improves to 8-11 overall and 3-1 in league play.

Nethersole also led the Hawks in hitting percentage, knocking a .280 average with five errors in 25 total attempts. As a team, the Hawks hit .135 for the match (35 kills, 21 errors, 104 total attacks), but were out matched as the Bearcats finished with a .314 hitting percentage (46 kills, 13 errors, 105 total attacks).

Joining Nethersole in leading the Hawks was junior Michelle Cordell who finished with seven kills and rookie Dionna Kirton who added six kills. Marshalling the Hawks offense was senior setter Lindsay Ford who finished with 30 assists, while also adding a pair of kills and no errors in eight total attacks.

Defensively, Kirton led the team and was one of three total players in the match to finish with 11 digs. Junior libero Danielle Etta finished just behind Kirton with eight digs, while Sydney Scott added seven and Cordell and Nethersole each chipped in with six. Scott led the Hawks blocking efforts with two total blocks.

Leading all hitters in the match was Binghamton's Michelle McDonough whof insihed with 16 kills, while teammate Anna Lejina finished with 15 kills and an impressive .419 hitting percentage with just two errors in 31 swings.

The Hawks will return to action on Sunday when they host the Albany Great Danes, who enter as the lone undefeated team in conference play, on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Admission is free and the Hawks will be hosting Girl Scout Day with a special meet and greet following the match with the Hartford players.
