BOX SCORE
ORONO, Maine - Playing their second America East road game in four days, the Hartford women's soccer team could not pull off a second straight road victory as they fell to the host Maine Black Bears, 1-0.
Amelia Pereira put up two shots on goal to lead the Hawks, who could not come back after a Maine goal in the game's 25th minute.
Pereira was named the America East's Player of the Match, along with Maine's Meagan Price-Leibenzeder, who had four saves to preserve the shutout.
Hartford (6-7-2, 2-2-2) once again was buoyed by its defense, as the Hawks withstood 15 first-half Maine shots to trail by just a goal. Hannah Breton scored the game's only goal in the 25th minute. Hartford goalkeeper
Lauren Brodeur made one of her five saves, but could not control the shot as Breton controlled the rebound and punched it into the back of the net.
Breton's goal stopped the momentum the Hawks had been buildling, with Pereira and
Caitlin Alves both pressuring Maine with shots on goal in the first 15 minutes of play.
In the second half, the Hawks began to get that momentum back on their side. The Hawks forced eight corner kicks in the period, with both
Shealagh Begley and Pereira putting shots up on Price-Leibenzeder. Neither could get past Maine's keeper, though, and the Hawks were kept off the board.
Hartford now returns home for its final regular season match at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium. The Hawks will host UMBC on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. The match will serve as Senior Night for the Hawks' three graduating seniors,
