Volleyball Falls to Providence in Three Sets in America East Match

PROVIDENCE, CONN. –
The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped its second conference match of the season on Sunday afternoon at Providence College. The Hawks fell in three sets (20-25, 20-25, 18-25) and now stand at 5-14 overall and 0-2 in America East Conference action.

Leading the Hawks offense was sophomore outside hitter Kami Nethersole who finished as the only Hawk with double figure kills with 11 total. She finished the match as one of three players who hit better than 20-percent for the match, with six errors in 24 total attacks for a .208 hitting percentage.

Also among the Hawks leading hitters was junior's Michelle Cordell and Lindsay Makowicki who each finished with five kills, while senior Lindsay Ford and junior Sydney Scott led the team in hitting percentage. Ford led all Hawks hitters with three kills and an error in seven total attempts (.286), while Scott also hit just one error and four kills in 14 total attacks (.214).

Defensively, Hartford was led by Ford, who finished with a double double, adding 10 digs to her credit. Also among the defensive leaders was Cordell and Danielle Etta who finished with seven digs. Cordell also finished the match with two blocks.

As a team, the Hawks hit .087 for the match with 32 kills and 23 errors in 103 total attacks. The Friars led both teams hitting efforts with a .262 hitting percentage with 41 total kills and 14 errors in 103 attacks. Both of Providence's leading hitters finished with a hitting percentage of .300, led by Shelagh Dolan with 10 kills and three errors in 21 total attacks for a .333 hitting percentage. Lauren Fletcher led all the hitters in the match with 13 kills, while sporting a .310 hitting percentage.

The Hawks will play just one match in the coming week when they travel to UMBC for their longest conference road trip of the season. Hartford and UMBC are scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. matinee on Sunday, October 10.
