Hawks Fall on Senior Day 3-2 to UMBC, Honor Lindsay Ford Prior to the Match

WEST HARTFORD, CONN. –
The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped a five-set (19-25, 25-23, 25-15, 21-25, 6-15) decision to the UMBC Retrievers in their final home regular season match in 2010. Prior to the Hawks honored their lone senior Lindsay Ford. With the loss the Hawks fall to 8-19 overall and 3-7 in America East action.

Neither team shot lights out in the match with UMBC leading both teams with a combined hitting percentage of .124. The Retrievers finished with 14 more kills than Hartford, taking a 55-41 advantage in the match. UMBC finished with 34 errors in 170 total attacks. Hartford finished the match with a .062 hitting percentage, suffering 32 errors in 144 total swings.

Leading the Hawks hitters was Michelle Cordell and Kami Nethersole, the only two Hawks to finish in double figures. Cordell led the pair and the team with 11 total kills, while Nethersole added 10kills. Nethersole also finished with a double double after stopping 13 balls for digs, one of five players to finish with double figure digs.

Freshman Lindsay Anderson finished with no errors for the Hawks, knocking down three kills in nine total attacks for a .333 hitting percentage, which led the team. Ford finished second for the Hawks in hitting percentage with five kills and two errors in 12 total attacks for a .250 hitting percentage. Ford also led the team with 33 total assists. She also finished with a double double adding 13 digs.

Leading the Hawks defensively was junior libero Danielle Etta who finished with 14 digs. Along with Nethersole and Ford's 13 was Sydney Scott who matched that number, while Dionna Kirton rounded out the leaders with 11 digs. The Hawks also finished with 10.5 blocks as a team, with a pair of Hawks knocking down five attacks each. Cordell and Anderson led the team with five each, with two of Cordell's going for solo blocks. Ford added four blocks, while Scott added three.

The Hawks will go on the road for their final two matches of the regular season, playing at Albany on Friday, November 12 at 7:00 p.m. and closing out the 2010 schedule at Binghamton on Sunday, November 14 at 2:00 p.m.
