CCSU Tops Women's Soccer, 3-1

BOX SCORE

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -
Breeanna Robinson connected on her fourth goal of the season, but the Hartford women's soccer team fell at Central Connecticut on Friday evening, 3-1. Robinson keyed the Hawks' offense with five shots, four of which went on goal, but neither she nor the rest of the team could beat Central's goalkeeper Jamie Trayer after Robinson's goal with just over five minutes to go in the first half.

Junior goalkeeper Lauren Brodeur saved a season high eight shots.

The Hawks (2-6-0) held a 1-0 lead at the half, after Robinson converted on a breakaway chance. Julianne Oberholtzer pushed the ball up from midfield, and the speedy Robinson outran the Central defense to corral the ball near the goal. Robinson dribbled the ball around Trayer and sent it to the back of the net from five yards out. Although the Blue Devils (3-5-0) outshot Hartford 7-3 in the first half, the goal shifted momentum just before the intermission and sent the Hawks into the break on the upswing.

Things did not stay that way, however, as Hartford was penalized just three minutes into the second half for a hard tackle in the box, awarding CCSU's Beth Lloyd a penalty kick. Lloyd took advantage, knotting the score.

The penalty kick turned out to be the start of a run for Lloyd and Central, as the senior would finish with all three of the Blue Devils' goals on the day. Her next came with just over 25 minutes left on the clock when Brodeur could not handle a loose ball in front of the net. Lloyd beat her to the rebound and put it home from six yards out.

The final nail in the coffin came five minutes later when Lloyd finished a crossing pattern from Allison Kelley and Kerriann Welch for her third tally of the game and eighth of the season. In total, the Blue Devils outshot Hartford 18-8.

Hartford will be back at home on Sunday afternoon, when they close out their home non-conference slate at 2:00 p.m. against Saint Joseph's. Tickets for the contest at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium can be purchased by calling 860-768-HAWK, and can also be purchased at the gate.
